Grammy™ award-winning drumming superstar, author, and instructional DVD creator Stanton Moore (Galactic) hosts his 5TH Annual“Spirit of New Orleans” Drum Camp, December 8TH – 10TH 2017 atThe Cabildo on Jackson Square in partnership with TheNew Orleans Jazz Museum. Produced by MUSO Entertainment, this exclusive 3-day music camp celebrates the legacy and rich musical tradition that is uniquely New Orleans’. Students will enjoy three, 8-hour days of hands-on drumming, for a total of 24 hours of specialized, small group instruction as well as opportunities for private lessons with New Orleans drumming legend Johnny Vidacovich and “King of Treme,” Shannon Powell. The exclusive “Spirit of New Orleans” Drum Camp will offer a limited number of students the chance to play with, and learn from superstar drummer Stanton Moore in an ultra-intensive classroom setting. Each student will play on an individual practice drum kit allowing for an incredibly intense, educational experience that guarantees results.

Built in 1795, The Cabildo on Jackson Square is one of the most historically significant buildings in the United States. Initially serving as the seat of government in New Orleans during the Spanish colonial period, in 1803, the building would serve as the site of the signing of the Louisiana Purchase. Today, the museum is home to an impressive collection of more than 1,000 artifacts and original works of art, including Eugene Louis Lami’s huge 1839 painting, “The Battle of New Orleans,” a collection of portraits of famous Louisiana figures, works from nature artist John James Audubon. In addition, The Cabildo hosts many interactive displays, all of which tell the story of Louisiana and its place in American history. Located at 701 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70116, the Cabildo sits in the heart of New Orleans' historic French Quarter.

A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Stanton Moore is a highly respected drummer and authority on New Orleans’ musical history who has toured the world as a performerand educator, garnering accolades for his superb drumming skills, clinics and for his wildly popular “Groove Alchemy” book and DVD. Inaddition, Moore has released a number of educational products celebrating New Orleans drumming styles including the book Take it to the Street, as well as his DVD series “A Modern Approach to New Orleans Drumming” and “A Traditional Approach to New Orleans Drumming,” as well as the comprehensive beginner-to-advance book and DVD project, “A Fresh Approach to the Drum Set.” Moore recently launched the online drumming educational website, The Stanton Moore Drum Academy and has designed his own signature line of cymbals for Crescent by Sabian. Moore regularly performs with Galactic as well as The Stanton Moore Trio and Dragon Smoke (featuring Ivan Neville), Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Maceo Parker, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Anders Osborne and many others. On July 21st, Moore will release a new album, With You In Mind – The Songs of Allen Toussaint.The compilation of songs from the New Orleans R&B legend featuresa “Who's Who” of the funk and New Orleans music scenes, including Cyril Neville, Trombone Shorty, Nicholas Payton, Skerik, Donald Harrison Jr. , Jolynda Kiki Chapman, Maceo Parker and Wendell Pierce.


Camp Schedule:

Friday – Sunday: Camp runs daily from 9:00 – 6:00 with a 1.5 hour lunch break.

Camp curriculum is customized to the individual group and no two camps are alike. Stanton and his special guests will work with students on the first day to assess individual needs and abilities and specific requests for topics to cover.

Johnny Vidacovitch and Shannon Powell will be available during normal camp hours to teach private, one-on-one lessons. Private lessons are an additional fee and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Evening concert tickets (free & discounted) will be made available on a first-come, first serve basis to SONO5 students. Venue policies may apply with regard to age limits for admission.


- What happens after I sign up?

Shortly after you sign up, you will receive a Student Information Sheet with information on gear rentals, private lesson pricing, etc., please fill it out and return at your earliest convenience.

- Are hotel accommodations included in the camp price?

No. Here is a map of the Jackson Square area. Students are free to find a hotel that suits their budget and travel schedule.

- What gear do I need & what is provided?

You will need to bring your own sticks, throne, practice kit & double pedal. If you need to rent or would like to purchase a practice kit, double pedal or throne from us, we have very affordable rates. After registering, you will receive a student information sheet to fill out and you can reserve/buy any gear you will need. - How do I get from the airport to the camp?

Taxis and shuttles are available at the airport. You can not reserve an Uber from the airport, but you can reserve one for your return trip to the airport.

- Can I still come if I’m not a musician?

YES! Come hang, explore and have fun New Orleans. The camp is in the heart of the French Quarter so there is plenty to do, see, eat, drink and enjoy.

- What skill level is required to attend?

Classes and curriculum are developed to accommodate all ranges of playing. All classes are optional and open to everyone. You may attend as many or as few of the sessions and activities as you wish.

- Is there an age requirement?

No. However, minors who attend the camp only and do not stay in the hotel will be required to provide a consent form from a legal guardian. Minors who would like to attend the camp + hotel option must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

- If I want to bring my spouse but they don’t want to attend classes, may I?

But of course! In order to bring a non-participant, you don’t need to pay a separate fee unless you need an extra hotel room. If you’re bringing the whole family, let us know and we can work with you to get you the best hotel rates!

- Face time: How much will there be?

LOTS! Stanton is with you from 9:00 – 6:00 daily. You will have plenty of time to ask questions, get private lessons, photographs and autographs and you can ask him to specifically cover topics that YOU are interested in covering at the camp.

- What about event cancellation?

MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 reserve the right to cancel the event at any time at our discretion if deemed necessary due to a lack of participation or any other reason. If the event is canceled, all fees collected by MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 will be reimbursed in full within 72 hours of event cancellation. MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 is not responsible for reimbursing any travel fees, fees for accommodations not provided by MUSO Entertainment/SONO5, or other expenses. We recommend in any case that you purchase travel insurance.

-Can I take photos, video or audio recordings?

Yes. Although, each counselor may have their own policies regarding filming and and you will be required to sign a waiver stating all recordings, footage and/or photos will be used strictly for personal use and not commercially. Remember, YOU paid to be at the camp. Why would you give it to somebody else for free?

-What is the weather at camp?

Weather in New Orleans in December is very mild, but you should check the forecast for current conditions.

Registration, Payment and Cancellation Terms and Conditions

Your decision to register for The SONO 5 Drum Camp constitutes your acknowledgment of and consent to all of the Registration, Payment and Cancellation terms and conditions listed below:

Registration and Payments:

·All rates are per person

··A non-refundable $250.00 deposit is required to reserve your space at the SONO5. Tuition balance payments are due 30 days prior to the start day of your camp. If payments are not received by the appropriate deadline, SONO5/MUSO Entertainment reserve the right to release your place in the camp to another student. Deposits are nonrefundable, no exceptions.

All rental fees are payable to MUSO Entertainment prior to the start of each camp.

·No refunds for any portion of any fees will be issued after the start of the camp. No partial refunds will be refunded for camp activities missed.

·Cancellations received fewer than 14 days prior to the start of any SONO5/MUSO Entertainment event will be issued a rain check for a future TLDBC event of equal or lesser value. No other refunds or credits will be issued.

·All TLDBC attendees are responsible for any rental gear provided and SONO5 reserves the right to charge students for any damaged or missing equipment.

Once a SONO5 reservation is placed, the following terms apply:

Due to the nature of our events and strict cancellation policies, MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 strongly suggests purchasing travel insurance.

Special Guests or curriculum schedule is subject to change: MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 the right to offer qualified substitute faculty and entertainment at our discretion in the event of the inability of a faculty member to attend, or other special circumstances, such as an emergency, illness, etc. If any such changes are made, MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 will make reasonable efforts to notify registrants by updating our website with the most up-to-date information. Attendees are still responsible for the full amount of their registration fee.

Event Cancellation: MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 reserves the right to cancel the event at any time at our discretion if deemed necessary due to a lack of participation or any other reason. If the event is canceled, all fees collected by MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 will be reimbursed by check. MUSO Entertainment/TSONO5 is not responsible for reimbursing any travel fees, fees for accommodations not provided by MUSO Entertainment/SONO5 or other expenses. We recommend in any case that you purchase travel insurance.

Any registration cancellations must be made 30-days in advance of the camp start date to receive tuition balance refunds. All other cancellations will receive rain checks for future SONO5 camp registration of their choice. No camp refunds, rain checks will be issued after the camp start date. Any unused portion of camp tuition is non-refundable.
